Abdurakhman Avtorkhanov

Abdurakhman Avtorkhanov, born on October twenty-fifth, nineteen oh eight, was a prominent Soviet historian and political scientist of Chechen descent. His scholarly work during the Cold War gained significant attention, as he authored several influential books that explored the intricacies of the Soviet Union and its ruling mechanisms. Avtorkhanov's writings, which he often published under various Russian pseudonyms, have seen a resurgence in popularity since the Dissolution of the Soviet Union, with many of his works now available under his real name.

Initially, Avtorkhanov was a dedicated functionary of the Communist Party, but his experiences during the Great Terror led to his imprisonment. This harrowing chapter of his life marked a turning point, prompting him to escape the oppressive regime of the USSR with assistance from German allies during the Second World War. His escape came just before the Soviet government deported the Chechen people, a fate he narrowly avoided.

After the war, Avtorkhanov settled in West Germany, where he continued to contribute to the field of history as a professor at the U.S. Army Russian Area School. His expertise and insights into Soviet affairs made him a valuable asset in the realm of Cold War scholarship. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, organizations dedicated to providing uncensored news and information to Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
