Abhay Ashtekar

Abhay Ashtekar, born on July fifth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished Indian American theoretical physicist renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to general relativity, quantum gravity, and cosmology. He holds the prestigious titles of Atherton Professor, Evan Pugh University Professor, and Eberly Chair in Physics Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University. In addition, he has been honored with Distinguished Visiting Chair appointments at both the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Canada and the Raman Research Institute in India.

Ashtekar is best known as the originator of the Ashtekar variables, a pivotal reformulation of general relativity that paved the way for the development of loop quantum gravity. His extensive research has significantly advanced the field, particularly in loop quantum cosmology, where he has explored the asymptotic structure of spacetime, gravitational waves in nonlinear general relativity, and the quantum description of the Big Bang.

With an impressive portfolio, Ashtekar has authored or co-authored approximately three hundred scientific papers and has written or edited nine scholarly books. His expertise has led him to deliver over two hundred plenary lectures at international conferences and workshops, sharing his insights with the global scientific community.
