Abhijit Banerjee

Abhijit Banerjee, born on February twenty-first, nineteen sixty-one, is a distinguished Indian American economist and university educator. He holds the prestigious position of Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As a co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), he plays a pivotal role in advancing the use of scientific evidence to shape effective poverty alleviation strategies globally.

In recognition of his groundbreaking work, Banerjee was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in two thousand nineteen, sharing this honor with esteemed colleagues Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer.
