Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Abraha

Abraha, a prominent military figure of the Aksumite Empire, was born around the year six hundred. His legacy is deeply intertwined with the history of Himyar, a region that corresponds to modern-day Yemen and parts of Arabia. For over three decades in the sixth century, he served as the viceroy of this significant territory, showcasing his military prowess and political acumen.

Initially a general in the Aksumite army, Abraha played a crucial role in the invasion of Yemen around five hundred twenty-five CE. His ambition led him to depose the Christian Himyarite king, who had been installed by Kaleb, thereby seizing control and establishing his own rule. This bold move marked the beginning of his influential reign.

One of the most notable events associated with Abraha is his infamous siege of Mecca, an endeavor that has been immortalized in Islamic tradition as the Year of the Elephant. His army, which included war elephants, attempted to conquer the sacred city, an event that some scholars believe is referenced in Surah Al-Fil, the one hundred fifth surah of the Quran. Recent archaeological discoveries, including a Himyarite inscription, may provide further evidence of this historic confrontation.
