Abu al-Aswad ad-Du'ali, born around six hundred and three, was a prominent Arab linguist and poet, renowned for his foundational contributions to Arabic grammar. His full name, ʾAbū al-Aswad Ẓālim ibn ʿAmr ibn Sufyān ibn Jandal ibn Yamār ibn Hīls ibn Nufātha ibn al-ʿĀdi ibn ad-Dīl ibn Bakr, reflects his rich heritage. As a companion of Ali ibn Abi Talib, he was deeply embedded in the cultural and intellectual currents of his time.
Ad-Du'ali is celebrated as one of the earliest Arab grammarians, often referred to as the
