Abu Hanifa

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Abu Hanifa

Abu Hanifa, born on the fifth of September in the year six hundred ninety-nine, was a distinguished Muslim scholar, jurist, and theologian. He is best known as the eponym of the Hanafi school of Sunni jurisprudence, which has become the most widely practiced legal school in the Islamic world. His influence extends across Central and South Asia, Turkey, Africa, the Balkans, Russia, and various regions of the Arab world.

While the exact location of his birth remains a topic of debate, with Kufa being the most widely accepted, some sources suggest Kabul, Anbar, Nasa, or Termez. In his youth, Abu Hanifa traveled to the Hejaz region of Arabia, where he had the opportunity to study in the revered Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

As a jurist and theologian, Abu Hanifa was recognized for his innovative approach, favoring the use of reason in his jurisprudential and theological rulings. His legacy continued to flourish after his passing, with many of his followers also embracing the Maturidi school of theology. Among his notable students were Abu Yusuf and Muhammad al-Shaybani, both of whom would go on to achieve prominence as celebrated jurists in their own right.
