Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Abu'l-Hasan Asaf Khan

Abu'l-Hasan Asaf Khan, born in the year fifteen sixty-nine, was a prominent politician and statesperson in the Mughal Empire. He rose to prominence under the reign of Emperor Jahangir, who honored him with the titles Itiqad Khan in sixteen eleven and Asaf Khan in sixteen fourteen. His political acumen led him to serve as the Grand Vizier, a role he assumed following the death of Mirza Ghiyas Beg and maintained until the ascension of Shah Jahan.

Before becoming Grand Vizier, Asaf Khan held the esteemed position of vakil, the highest administrative office in the Mughal hierarchy, where he demonstrated exceptional governance and leadership skills. His tenure was marked by significant contributions to the empire's administration and stability.

Asaf Khan is perhaps best remembered as the father of Arjumand Banu Begum, who is more famously known as Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved chief consort of Shah Jahan. Additionally, he was the elder brother of Empress Nur Jahan, further intertwining his legacy with the imperial family. His lineage continued to shape the Mughal dynasty, as he was also the maternal grandfather of notable figures such as Emperor Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh.
