Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis

Jamal Ja'far Muhammad Ali Al Ibrahim, widely recognized as Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, was born on July first, nineteen fifty-four. He emerged as a prominent Iraqi paramilitary leader and civil engineer, known for his significant role in the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), where he served as the chief of staff. His leadership was pivotal during the fight against ISIS, as he commanded various volunteer militias, including the Kata'ib Hezbollah group.

Al-Muhandis's political journey began in opposition to Saddam Hussein's regime in nineteen seventy-seven. His activities during this period included collaboration with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) against Saddam's government. However, his legacy is marred by allegations of terrorism, including a death sentence in absentia from a Kuwaiti court for his involvement in the nineteen eighty-three Kuwait bombings.

Despite being designated a terrorist by the United States since two thousand nine, al-Muhandis continued to play a crucial role in Iraqi politics and military operations. He was implicated in planning attacks against U.S. interests, including a significant assault on the American embassy in Baghdad in late December two thousand nineteen.

On January third, two thousand twenty, al-Muhandis met his end in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport, alongside Qasem Soleimani, the head of Iran's Quds Force. His death marked a significant moment in the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, highlighting his controversial yet impactful presence in the region.
