Abu Mohammad al-Adnani

Taha Subhi Falaha, known by his nom de guerre Abu Muhammad al-Adnani al-Shami, was a prominent Syrian-born militant leader and the official spokesperson for the Islamic State. Born in 1977, he rose to become one of the most influential figures within the organization, serving as the second most senior leader after Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Al-Adnani was not only a spokesperson but also played a crucial role in the Islamic State's external operations. He was reported to be in charge of a special unit called the Emni, which was established in 2014 to oversee internal policing and coordinate terrorist attacks beyond IS territory.

In May 2015, the U.S. State Department placed a bounty of up to five million dollars on his head, reflecting his significance and the threat he posed. His activities and leadership made him a key target for international forces.

On August 30, 2016, the Islamic State announced that al-Adnani had been killed in Aleppo Province. Various fighting forces claimed responsibility for his death, but it was later confirmed by the U.S. Department of Defense that a coalition airstrike had successfully targeted him, despite earlier claims from the Russian Federation regarding his demise.
