Adama Barrow

Adama Barrow, born on February fifteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a prominent Gambian politician and real estate developer. He has held the esteemed position of the third president of The Gambia since his election in two thousand seventeen. As a member of the National People's Party (NPP), which he has led since its inception in two thousand nineteen, Barrow has played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of his country.

Hailing from Mankamang Kunda in the Jimara district, Barrow's roots are deeply embedded in the diverse cultural fabric of The Gambia. His father, Mamadou Barrow, was a Mandinka, while his mother, Haddy Jallow, belonged to the Fullah tribe. His educational journey began at Crab Island Secondary School and continued at the Muslim High School, where he earned a scholarship. Following his studies, he worked as a sales manager for Alhagie Musa Njie & Sons, a local energy company.

In the early two thousands, Barrow moved to London to pursue qualifications in real estate. Upon his return to The Gambia in two thousand six, he established Majum Real Estate, serving as its CEO until two thousand sixteen. His political career took off when he became the treasurer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and later assumed leadership in September two thousand sixteen after the previous leader was imprisoned.

Barrow emerged as the UDP candidate for the presidential election in two thousand sixteen, later running as an independent with the support of the opposition coalition, Coalition two thousand sixteen. He won the election with forty-three point thirty-four percent of the vote, defeating the long-standing incumbent, Yahya Jammeh. Although Jammeh initially accepted the results, he later contested them, forcing Barrow to seek refuge in Senegal. He was inaugurated at the Gambian embassy in Senegal on January nineteenth, two thousand seventeen, and returned to The Gambia on January twenty-sixth, where he was sworn in again on February eighteenth.

In November two thousand twenty-one, Barrow announced his candidacy for the presidential election and successfully secured re-election, further solidifying his influence in Gambian politics.
