Adelaide of Holland

Adelaide of Holland, born in the year one thousand two hundred thirty, was a prominent political figure in her time. As a Countess of Hainaut through her marriage to John I, Count of Hainaut, she played a significant role in the governance of her region.

During a crucial period between one thousand two hundred fifty-six and one thousand two hundred sixty-three, Adelaide served as the regent of the County of Holland. This was during the minority of her nephew, Count Floris V, showcasing her leadership and political acumen in a time of transition.

She was born into a noble lineage as the daughter of Floris IV, Count of Holland, and Matilda of Brabant. Her family connections were further strengthened through her brother, William II, who was not only Count of Holland but also King of Germany, highlighting the influential network she was part of.
