Adnan

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Adnan

Adnan is traditionally recognized as the patriarch of the Adnanite Arabs, a significant lineage that historically occupied Northern, Western, Eastern, and Central Arabia. This group is distinct from the Qahtanite Arabs of Southern Arabia, who trace their ancestry back to Qahtan.

Considered a direct descendant of the prophet Abraham through his son Ishmael, Adnan's genealogy holds immense importance in Arab and Islamic tradition. Notably, the Islamic prophet Muhammad is said to descend from him, establishing a vital connection to a vast network of Arab tribes that played pivotal roles in both pre-Islamic and Islamic history.

Historical genealogies attribute to Adnan a crucial role in preserving Ishmaelite ancestry among the Arabs. His descendants, known as the Adnanites, included influential tribes such as Mudar, Rabi'ah, Quda'a, and Qays ʿAylān, many of which became dominant forces in the Arabian Peninsula. The Quraysh tribe, from which Muhammad emerged, is among the most renowned Adnanite groups.

Due to the oral tradition of genealogical transmission in early Arabia, the precise number of generations between Adnan and Ishmael remains uncertain, with various historical sources providing differing accounts. Nevertheless, Adnan's name is widely acknowledged in Islamic literature, Arab poetry, and pre-Islamic genealogical records.
