Afonso III of Portugal

Afonso III, known as Afonso Afonso, was born on the fifth of May in the year twelve hundred and ten. He ascended to the throne as King of Portugal, marking a significant moment in the nation's history as he became the first monarch to adopt the title King of Portugal and the Algarve in twelve forty-nine.

As the second son of King Afonso II of Portugal and Urraca of Castile, Afonso III's path to kingship was shaped by the legacy of his family. He succeeded his brother, King Sancho II, who passed away on the fourth of January in twelve forty-eight, thus paving the way for Afonso's reign.

His rule, which lasted until his death on the sixteenth of February in the year twelve seventy-nine, was characterized by efforts to consolidate and expand the territories of Portugal. Afonso III's contributions to the kingdom laid the groundwork for future developments in the region.
