Aga of Kish

Aga of Kish, a prominent figure in ancient Mesopotamia, reigned as the king of the first dynasty of Kish during the Early Dynastic I period, around two thousand seven hundred BC. He is recognized as the twenty-third king of Kish in the Sumerian King List and is often identified as the son of Enmebaragesi, a notable predecessor.

Under Aga's leadership, the city of Kish flourished, reaching its zenith and extending its influence beyond its immediate territory to encompass regions such as Umma and Zabala. His reign marked a significant era in the history of Kish, characterized by territorial expansion and political power.

However, Aga's legacy is also marked by conflict, particularly highlighted in the Sumerian poem 'Gilgamesh and Aga.' This narrative recounts the siege of Uruk, where Aga sought to assert his dominance over the city. The conflict arose when Uruk's lord, Gilgamesh, refused to submit to Aga's authority, ultimately leading to Aga's defeat and the decline of Kish's hegemony.
