Agnès Callamard

Agnès Callamard, born on March fourteenth, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent French human rights defender known for her unwavering commitment to justice and accountability. Currently serving as the Secretary General of Amnesty International, she has dedicated her career to advocating for the rights of individuals around the globe.

Before her role at Amnesty International, Callamard made significant contributions as the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions, a position she held under the auspices of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Her work in this capacity highlighted the urgent need for reform and protection of human rights in various contexts.

In addition to her advocacy work, Callamard was the former director of the Columbia University Global Freedom of Expression project, where she focused on the critical intersection of freedom of expression and human rights.
