Agustín de Iturbide

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Agustín de Iturbide

Agustín Cosme Damián de Iturbide y Arámburu, born on September twenty-seventh, seventeen eighty-three, was a pivotal figure in Mexican history. Initially serving as an officer in the royal Spanish army, Iturbide's career took a dramatic turn during the Mexican War of Independence. He began by fighting against the insurgent forces that sought to liberate Mexico from Spanish rule.

In a remarkable shift of allegiance in eighteen twenty, Iturbide joined the insurgents, leading a coalition of former royalists and long-time rebels under his Plan of Iguala. This strategic alliance was instrumental in achieving Mexican independence, which was declared in September eighteen twenty-one.

Following the successful secession from Spain, Iturbide was appointed president of the Regency in eighteen twenty-one. His rise continued as he was proclaimed Emperor of Mexico on May nineteenth, eighteen twenty-two, a position he held until his abdication on March nineteenth, eighteen twenty-three. After his abdication, he went into exile in Europe.

Iturbide's return to Mexico in July eighteen twenty-four was met with tragedy; he was arrested and executed shortly thereafter, marking a dramatic end to the life of a man who played a crucial role in shaping the nation.
