Ahmad Massoud, born on July tenth, nineteen eighty-nine, is a prominent Afghan politician and military leader, recognized as the founder and leader of the National Resistance Front (NRF) since two thousand twenty-one. He is the eldest child and only son of the renowned military commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, and he hails from a Tajik Sunni Muslim family.
Massoud's political journey began in September two thousand nineteen when he launched a movement opposing President Ashraf Ghani. He emerged as a vocal critic of the Afghan peace process between the Taliban and the United States, accurately foreseeing that it would lead to the eventual downfall of the Islamic Republic under Taliban control.
Following the fall of Kabul in two thousand twenty-one, Massoud established the NRF in Panjshir, spearheading a republican insurgency against the Taliban. After the Taliban's takeover of Panjshir, he sought refuge in Tajikistan and later moved to France, where he continues to lead political activities for the NRF.
A proponent of a decentralized Afghanistan, Massoud has become a leading figure in the Afghan opposition against the Taliban. He has actively participated in various conferences aimed at fostering a democratic state in Afghanistan, uniting anti-Taliban leaders, women's rights advocates, and representatives of civil society.
