Ahmad Yasawi, born in the year one thousand one hundred and three, was a distinguished Turkic poet and Sufi mystic. He is celebrated as the earliest known Turkic poet to compose in Middle Turkic, marking a significant milestone in the literary heritage of the Turkic-speaking world.
Yasawi's influence extended far beyond poetry; he was a pioneer of popular mysticism and played a crucial role in the establishment of the first Turkic Sufi order, known as the Yasawiyya or Yeseviye. This order rapidly gained traction across Turkic-speaking regions, shaping the spiritual landscape of the time.
As a Hanafi scholar, Yasawi was guided by his murshid, Yusuf Hamadani, and his teachings emphasized the importance of spiritual growth and community. His contributions to Sufism and poetry have left an indelible mark on the cultural and religious practices of Turkic peoples.
