Ahmed El-Gendy

Ahmed El-Gendy, born on March first, two thousand, is a distinguished Egyptian modern pentathlete who has made significant strides in his sport. He gained international recognition when he clinched the silver medal in the men's event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, showcasing his exceptional skills and determination. His journey in competitive sports began earlier, as he also participated in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, where he proudly secured a gold medal for Egypt.

El-Gendy's remarkable achievements continued at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he not only won the gold medal but also shattered both the Olympic and world records with an impressive score of one thousand five hundred fifty-five points. This victory marked a historic moment, as he became the first athlete from Africa to earn medals, including an Olympic gold, in the modern pentathlon.

During the 2020 Summer Olympics, El-Gendy faced a challenging start, ranking thirteenth after the fencing, swimming, and riding events. He trailed the leader, Joe Choong, by fifty points, which meant he began the final laser-run fifty seconds behind. However, his tenacity shone through as he made up the deficit during the laser-run, even briefly leading in the final eight hundred meters before finishing just under five seconds behind Choong.

In addition to his athletic prowess, El-Gendy was honored to serve as the official flag bearer for Egypt at the Paris 2024 Olympics, alongside fellow athletes Sara Ahmed and Mohamed El-Sayed. His training at Smouha SC in Alexandria has been instrumental in preparing him for these prestigious competitions, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in modern pentathlon.
