Ahmed Jabari

Ahmed al-Jabari, also known as Abu Mohammad, was born on December fourth, nineteen sixty. He emerged as a prominent Palestinian militant, serving as the second-in-command of Hamas' military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Jabari played a pivotal role in the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip and was instrumental in orchestrating the 2006 cross-border raid that led to the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

His early political involvement began at the Islamic University of Gaza, where he initially joined Fatah, advocating for armed resistance against Israel. In nineteen eighty-two, Jabari was arrested by Israeli authorities and spent thirteen years in prison. Upon his release, he shifted allegiance to Hamas, where he was implicated in a bombing incident in Kfar Darom, leading to another arrest by the Palestinian Authority's Preventive Security Force in nineteen ninety-eight.

In two thousand two, following an Israeli airstrike that severely injured Mohammad Deif, Jabari assumed the role of acting operational head of Hamas' military wing. His influence extended beyond military operations; he was also a significant figure in Hamas' political leadership and founded the Nur Association, dedicated to supporting martyrs and prisoners.

On November fourteenth, two thousand twelve, Jabari's life was cut short by a targeted airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force and Shin Bet during Operation Pillar of Defense. His assassination marked a significant moment in the ongoing conflict, as he was the highest-ranking Hamas official killed in Gaza since the 2008–2009 Gaza War.
