Ahmet Ali Çelikten

Ahmet Ali Çelikten, born in İzmir in 1883, is celebrated as a pioneering figure in aviation history. Known as İzmirli Ali Ahmet, he holds the distinction of being the first black pilot in history, a remarkable achievement that paved the way for future generations of aviators.

Çelikten's journey into the skies began when he earned his pilot wings in 1914, making him one of the first black men to become a fighter pilot.
