Ahn Chang Ho, also known by his art name Dosan, was born on November 9, 1878, and became a significant figure in Korean history as a politician and writer. He played a crucial role in the Korean independence movement and was a pioneering leader within the Korean-American immigrant community in the United States.
In 1907, upon returning to Korea from the United States, Ahn established the influential Korean independence organization Shinminhoe. His commitment to social activism was further exemplified by his founding of the Young Korean Academy in San Francisco in 1913, which aimed to educate and empower the Korean diaspora.
Ahn's contributions to the Korean independence movement continued to flourish as he became a key founding member of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai in 1919. His legacy is also marked by his involvement in the creation of the South Korean national anthem, "Aegukga," where he is believed to be one of the lyricists.
