Aki Shimazaki, born in nineteen fifty-four, is a distinguished Canadian novelist, translator, and linguist. Originally from Japan, she made the significant move to Canada in nineteen eighty-one, where she initially settled in Vancouver and later in Toronto. Since nineteen ninety-one, she has called Montreal home, where she imparts her knowledge of the Japanese language and continues to craft her literary works in French.
Throughout her career, Shimazaki has garnered critical acclaim for her novels. Her second novel, Hamaguri, was awarded the prestigious Prix Ringuet in two thousand. Following this success, her fourth novel, Wasurenagusa, received the Canada-Japan Literary Prize in two thousand two. Notably, her fifth work, Hotaru, was honored with the Governor General's Award for French fiction in two thousand five.
