Akua Kuenyehia, born in nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Ghanaian academic and lawyer who made significant contributions to international law as a judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) from two thousand three to two thousand fifteen. During her tenure, she held the esteemed position of First Vice-president of the Court, becoming one of the three female African judges to serve in this pivotal role.

In addition to her judicial responsibilities, Kuenyehia represented Ghana on the United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) committee in two thousand three. Her dedication to this cause helped enhance the committee's reputation and influence, showcasing her commitment to advancing women's rights on a global scale.

Beyond her judicial and advocacy work, Kuenyehia is recognized as an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, reflecting her academic achievements and contributions to legal education. She is also a member of the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative Advisory Council, a project of the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, aimed at establishing the world's first treaty on the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity.
