Al Attles

Alvin Austin Attles Jr., born on November 7, 1936, was a prominent figure in American basketball, known for his remarkable career with the Golden State Warriors. Nicknamed the 'Destroyer', Attles played as a point guard and was selected by the Warriors in the 1960 NBA draft. Over the course of eleven seasons, he witnessed the team's transition from Philadelphia to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962, solidifying his legacy within the franchise.

In the 1970–71 season, Attles took on the dual role of player-coach, marking the end of his playing days. His leadership extended beyond his playing career, as he continued to coach the Warriors, leading them to an NBA championship in 1975. His tenure as head coach lasted until 1983, after which he transitioned to the role of general manager, serving in that capacity until 1986.

Attles's contributions to the Warriors were recognized when his number sixteen was retired in 1977. His impact on the team and the sport was further honored with his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. Throughout his life, Attles remained a dedicated member of the Warriors organization, taking on various roles, including team ambassador and community relations representative.
