Al Jean

Al Jean, born on January ninth, nineteen sixty-one, is a prominent American screenwriter and producer, best known for his extensive work on the iconic animated series The Simpsons. Raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, he pursued higher education at Harvard University, graduating in nineteen eighty-one. It was during this time that he began his writing career in the nineteen eighties, collaborating with fellow Harvard alum Mike Reiss.

Jean and Reiss made their mark in television by contributing to several notable shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, ALF, and It's Garry Shandling's Show. Their partnership led to a significant opportunity in nineteen eighty-nine when they were hired as writers for The Simpsons, becoming the first members of the show's original writing staff.

During their tenure, Jean and Reiss served as showrunners for the show's third and fourth seasons, before departing to create The Critic, an animated series centered around film critic Jay Sherman. Although it received critical acclaim, The Critic struggled to find an audience and was canceled after two seasons. In nineteen ninety-four, the duo signed a development deal with The Walt Disney Company, resulting in the short-lived sitcom Teen Angel.

Jean returned to The Simpsons in the tenth season and resumed his role as showrunner in the thirteenth season, continuing until season thirty-three, where he shared the position with Matt Selman. He stepped down from the role entirely in season thirty-seven. Additionally, Jean contributed to The Simpsons Movie, a feature-length adaptation of the beloved series, released in two thousand seven.
