Al-Saffah

Abu al-ʿAbbās Abd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-ʿAbbās, known as al-Saffah, was born in the year seven hundred twenty-one or seven hundred twenty-two. He rose to prominence as the first caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate, a significant and enduring dynasty in Islamic history.

His title, al-Saffah, translates to 'the Blood-Shedder,' a moniker that reflects his fierce and often ruthless approach to power. This name was not merely a label; it was a declaration of his intent, as he introduced himself with this title during his inaugural homage at the Great Mosque of Kufa.

Al-Saffah's reign was marked by a notable and brutal campaign against the Umayyads, which solidified his reputation and the legacy of the Abbasid Caliphate. His actions during this period were characterized by a determination to eliminate his rivals, ensuring the establishment of a new order in the Islamic world.

He ruled until his death on the eighth of June in the year seven hundred fifty-four, leaving behind a complex legacy that continues to be studied and debated by historians today.
