Al-Shafi'i

Al-Shafi'i, born on August twenty-eighth in the year seven hundred sixty-seven CE, was a prominent Muslim scholar and jurist whose contributions to Islamic jurisprudence are unparalleled. He is celebrated as the eponym of the Shafi'i school of Sunni Islamic law, which has shaped legal thought and practice for centuries.

Raised in Mecca after relocating from Gaza at the tender age of two, Al-Shafi'i's early life was steeped in the rich traditions of Islamic scholarship. His travels took him to significant centers of learning, including Medina, Yemen, Baghdad, and Egypt, where he honed his expertise and served as a judge in Najran.

Al-Shafi'i's most notable achievement is his authorship of al-Risala, one of the earliest works on the principles of Islamic jurisprudence.
