Al Ulbrickson

Alvin Edmund Ulbrickson Jr., born on October 10, 1930, in Seattle, was an accomplished American rower who made his mark in the world of competitive rowing. He was the son of the renowned University of Washington rowing coach, Al Ulbrickson Sr., which undoubtedly influenced his passion for the sport.

In 1952, Ulbrickson showcased his talent as a member of the American rowing team at the Summer Olympics, where he contributed to the crew's success in clinching the bronze medal in the coxed fours event. This achievement not only highlighted his skills but also placed him in the annals of Olympic history.

After serving two years in the Army, Ulbrickson returned to the University of Washington, where he transitioned from athlete to educator. He took on the role of assistant dean of men and later advanced to vice president of student affairs, demonstrating his commitment to student development and leadership.

Al Ulbrickson's life came to a close on July 6, 2012, when he passed away from lung cancer. His legacy, however, continues to inspire future generations of rowers and students alike.
