Alban Berg

Alban Berg, born on February ninth, eighteen eighty-five, was a prominent Austrian composer associated with the Second Viennese School. His unique compositional style masterfully blended Romantic lyricism with the innovative twelve-tone technique, allowing him to create music that resonates with profound emotional depth.

Growing up in Vienna, Berg began his journey into composition at the tender age of fifteen. His formal education in music theory, counterpoint, and harmony was guided by the influential Arnold Schoenberg from nineteen oh four to nineteen eleven. It was during this period that Berg adopted Schoenberg's principles of developing variation and the twelve-tone technique, which would become hallmarks of his work.

Despite a relatively small body of work, Berg's contributions to music are monumental. His operas, notably 'Wozzeck' composed between nineteen fourteen and nineteen twenty-two, and 'Lulu,' which was completed posthumously in nineteen twenty-eight, are celebrated for their emotional intensity. Other significant compositions include the 'Lyric Suite,' 'Chamber Concerto,' and a poignant Violin Concerto, alongside a collection of lieder.

Berg's life came to an untimely end in nineteen thirty-five due to sepsis. He is remembered not only for his technical prowess but also for infusing the twelve-tone system with human values, making his music more emotionally resonant compared to that of his contemporaries. His works, characterized by a surface glamour, garnered admiration during a time when Schoenberg himself had few.
