Albert Anastasia, born on September twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred two, was a notorious Italian-American mobster and crime boss. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the modern American Mafia and was a co-founder of the infamous Murder, Inc. organization. Anastasia's rise to power culminated in his leadership of what would become the Gambino crime family, one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the United States.
Throughout his criminal career, Anastasia exerted significant control over New York City's waterfront, primarily through manipulation of dockworker unions. His influence in this area not only solidified his power but also contributed to his fearsome reputation as one of the most ruthless figures in organized crime history.
Known by several chilling nicknames, including The Earthquake, The One-Man Army, The Mad Hatter, and The Lord High Executioner, Anastasia was feared by many. His reign came to a violent end on October twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-seven, when he was murdered on the orders of fellow mobsters Vito Genovese and Carlo Gambino, the latter of whom subsequently took over as the boss of the Gambino family.
