Albert Eckhout

Albert Eckhout, born in Groningen in the year sixteen ten, was a notable Dutch painter renowned for his contributions to portraiture and still life. As one of the pioneering European artists to depict scenes from Brazil, Eckhout's journey took a significant turn when he joined the entourage of Johan Maurits, Prince of Nassau-Siegen, the Dutch governor-general of Brazil. This opportunity allowed him, alongside fellow painter Frans Post, to document the diverse landscapes, inhabitants, and the rich flora and fauna of the region.

Eckhout's artistic prowess is particularly celebrated in his still-life paintings, which showcase an array of Brazilian fruits and vegetables.
