Albert II of Germany

Albert II of Germany, born on August sixteenth, fourteen ninety-seven, was a prominent monarch of the House of Habsburg. He ascended to the title of Albert V, Duke of Austria, through inheritance. His marriage to Elizabeth of Luxembourg granted him additional royal titles, including King of Hungary, King of Croatia, and King of Bohemia, along with a claim to the Duchy of Luxembourg.

Throughout his reign, Albert II played a crucial role in the Hussite Wars, supporting his father-in-law Sigismund. Despite his efforts, he faced significant challenges, including defeats such as the Battle of Domažlice in fourteen thirty-one. In fourteen thirty-eight, he was crowned King of Hungary, where he struggled to maintain control over Bohemia and engaged in conflicts against Polish-Bohemian forces.

Albert II's tenure as King of the Romans was marked by his untimely death in fourteen thirty-nine while defending Hungary from the advancing Ottomans. His reign was also characterized by a series of anti-Hussite and anti-Jewish persecutions, reflecting the turbulent socio-political climate of the time. The Austrian Jewish community faced heightened taxation and expulsions, culminating in the tragic Vienna pogrom of fourteen twenty, which was partly fueled by accusations of collaboration with the Hussites.
