Albert LeGatt

Albert LeGatt, born on May 6, 1953, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, is a prominent figure in the Roman Catholic Church, currently serving as the Archbishop of St. Boniface in Manitoba, Canada. His journey began at St. Boniface College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and French in nineteen seventy-four. Following his graduation, he dedicated a year as a CUSO volunteer in Ghana, imparting his knowledge of French to secondary school students.

In nineteen seventy-seven, LeGatt entered Le Grand Séminaire de Québec, culminating in his ordination as a priest for the Diocese of Prince Albert on June 19, nineteen eighty-three, by Bishop Blaise Morand. Over the next seventeen years, he contributed to various parishes within the diocese, taking on roles such as co-ordinator of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, Director of Vocations, and Consultor.

His academic pursuits continued at the University of Notre Dame in the year two thousand, and on October 5, two thousand one, he was consecrated as the Bishop of Saskatoon. He served in this capacity for eight years before his appointment as Archbishop of St. Boniface by Pope Benedict XVI on July 3, two thousand nine. He received the Pallium on June 29, two thousand ten, symbolizing his role as a shepherd of the faithful.

LeGatt's Episcopal motto, 'Ut Unum Sint'—meaning 'That They May Be One'—reflects his commitment to unity within the Church, inspired by the Gospel of John. In addition to his archbishopric duties, he chairs the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and the Sacraments for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and is a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
