Albert Vanhoye

Albert Vanhoye, born on July twenty-fourth, nineteen twenty-three, was a distinguished French theologian and biblical scholar. A member of the Society of Jesus, he dedicated his life to the study and teaching of scripture, significantly impacting the field of theology.

His academic journey flourished at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, where he taught from nineteen sixty-three until nineteen ninety-eight. During this time, he also served as the rector of the institute from nineteen eighty-four to nineteen ninety, guiding future generations of scholars in their theological pursuits.

In addition to his teaching role, Vanhoye was appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission from nineteen ninety to two thousand one, further solidifying his influence within the Catholic Church. His contributions to biblical scholarship were recognized when Pope Benedict XVI elevated him to the rank of cardinal in two thousand six.
