Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Alejandro Mayorkas

Alejandro Mayorkas, born on November twenty-four, nineteen fifty-nine, in Havana, Cuba, is a distinguished Cuban-American attorney and politician. His family fled to Florida shortly after the Cuban Revolution and later settled in California, where Mayorkas pursued his education. He graduated with honors in history from the University of California, Berkeley, before earning his Juris Doctor from Loyola Marymount University.

Mayorkas began his legal career as an assistant United States attorney and later served as the United States attorney for the Central District of California from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand one. His significant contributions to public service include his role as the director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen, where he implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process in just sixty days and led efforts to assist orphaned children after the devastating earthquake in Haiti in January two thousand ten.

In November twenty-three, two thousand twenty, President-elect Joe Biden nominated Mayorkas to be the seventh Secretary of Homeland Security. His confirmation by the Senate on February second, two thousand twenty-one, came amid considerable Republican opposition, particularly regarding his immigration policies. As Secretary, he has overseen a record number of encounters with removable noncitizens, including two point two million at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year two thousand twenty-two.

Mayorkas's tenure has not been without controversy, leading to his impeachment by the House of Representatives in two thousand twenty-four for alleged dereliction of duty. This marked a historic moment as he became the first cabinet member to be impeached since William Belknap in eighteen seventy-six. However, the Senate later dismissed the impeachment charges, concluding the matter without a trial.
