Alejandro Sabella

Alejandro Sabella, born on November fifth, nineteen fifty-four, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a distinguished figure in the world of football, both as a player and a coach. He began his professional playing career at River Plate, where he showcased his talent before making a significant move to England in nineteen seventy-eight to join Sheffield United. His journey continued in the English leagues with Leeds United, after which he returned to South America to play for clubs such as Estudiantes, Grêmio, Ferro Carril Oeste, and Irapuato.

After hanging up his boots, Sabella transitioned into coaching, forming a notable partnership with his close friend Daniel Passarella. He served as Passarella's assistant during various managerial stints, including roles with the Argentina national team, Italian club Parma, and clubs in Uruguay, Mexico, and Brazil. Their shared history at River Plate, where both had played, eventually led Sabella to take the reins as head coach of Estudiantes, where he achieved remarkable success, winning the Argentine Primera División Apertura championship and the prestigious Copa Libertadores in two thousand nine.

In February two thousand eleven, Sabella stepped down from his position at Estudiantes and was appointed as the head coach of the Argentina national team. His tenure culminated in a memorable run to the final of the two thousand fourteen FIFA World Cup, where Argentina faced Germany, ultimately losing one to zero in extra time. Sabella had planned to resign following the World Cup, marking the end of a significant chapter in his coaching career.

Sadly, Alejandro Sabella passed away on December eighth, two thousand twenty, due to an infection acquired during a hospital stay. His legacy in football, both on and off the pitch, remains influential and inspiring to many.
