He played a crucial role in drafting a new constitution in nineteen ninety-seven and was instrumental in Poland's accession to NATO in nineteen ninety-nine and the European Union in two thousand four.

In addition to his domestic achievements, Kwaśniewski was active in international affairs, notably brokering a pro-democratic agreement during the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in two thousand four. A poll conducted by Rzeczpospolita in two thousand twenty revealed that many Poles regarded him as the best president in Poland's post-nineteen eighty-nine history.
