Aleksandër Meksi

Aleksandër Meksi, born on March eighth, nineteen thirty-nine, is a prominent Albanian politician and architect. He made history as the twenty-eighth Prime Minister of Albania, serving from April thirteenth, nineteen ninety-two, to March eleventh, nineteen ninety-seven. Meksi was the first individual to hold this office following the end of communist rule, marking a significant transition in the country's political landscape.

Before his political career, Meksi was deeply involved in archaeology, focusing on the research and restoration of medieval architecture, particularly churches and mosques. His expertise in this field laid a strong foundation for his later political endeavors. Meksi was a member of the Democratic Party of Albania and took office concurrently with President Sali Berisha, who shared his political affiliation.

During his tenure, Meksi's government was noted for one of the longest periods of stability among democratically elected administrations in Albania. However, his time in office came to an end as the nation faced a civil war in nineteen ninety-seven, primarily driven by financial turmoil. Following his resignation, Berisha also stepped down, signaling a turbulent period in Albanian politics.

In May two thousand nine, Meksi returned to the political arena as the leader of the Pole of Freedom, a right-wing coalition that included the Demochristian Party of Albania and the Movement for National Development. This coalition aimed to represent the interests of landowners affected by the communist regime and victims of political persecution. Meksi's re-emergence in politics was met with mixed media reactions but was generally well-received by the Albanian populace, positioning him as a significant figure in the country's ongoing political discourse.
