Alessandro de' Medici, Duke of Florence

Alessandro de' Medici, born on June twenty-second, fifteen ten, was a prominent figure in the political landscape of Renaissance Florence. Known by the nickname 'il Moro' due to his distinctive dark complexion, he rose to power as the first Duke of the Florentine Republic in fifteen thirty-two, marking a significant shift in the governance of the city.

His reign as the Duke of Florence began in fifteen thirty and lasted until his untimely death in fifteen thirty-seven. As the first member of the Medici family to rule Florence as a hereditary monarch, Alessandro's leadership was pivotal in shaping the future of the city. Tragically, Alessandro's life was cut short when he was assassinated by his distant cousin, Lorenzaccio.
