Alethea Arnaquq-Baril

Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, born on May ninth, nineteen seventy-eight, is a prominent Inuk filmmaker celebrated for her compelling narratives that explore Inuit life and culture. As the owner of Unikkaat Studios, based in Iqaluit, she has dedicated her career to producing films in Inuktitut, ensuring that the stories of her people are told authentically and with respect.

In recognition of her impactful work as both an activist and filmmaker, Alethea was awarded the Canadian Meritorious Service Cross in two thousand seventeen. This prestigious honor highlights her commitment to raising awareness about Inuit issues and her efforts to empower her community through the medium of film.
