Alexander Khatisian

Alexander Khatisian, born on February seventeenth, eighteen seventy-four in Tiflis, was a prominent Armenian politician, physician, and writer. He hailed from a noble Armenian family and received his education in Tiflis before pursuing medical studies in Moscow, Kharkov, and Germany. His career in public service began when he was appointed mayor of Tiflis, a position he held from nineteen ten to nineteen seventeen, during which he played a crucial role in organizing Armenian volunteer detachments at the onset of World War I.

In nineteen seventeen, Khatisian became a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and was actively involved in the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia. He served on the Armenian National Council and was later appointed as foreign minister, where he signed the Treaty of Batum with the Ottoman Empire. Following this, he briefly held the position of interior minister and then became prime minister from May nineteen nineteen until May nineteen twenty, resigning after the Bolshevik-led May Uprising.

After his resignation, Khatisian sought international support for Armenia in various European capitals. On December third, nineteen twenty, he led an Armenian delegation that signed the Treaty of Alexandropol with Kemalist Turkey, despite the fact that the government he represented had already been dissolved. Following the Soviet takeover of Armenia, he went into exile in Paris, where he authored several works, including his memoirs and a historical account of the Republic of Armenia.

Khatisian's life took a tumultuous turn after the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation when he was arrested on suspicion of collaboration but was soon released. He passed away in Paris on March tenth, nineteen forty-five, at the age of seventy-one, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated public figure and a witness to a pivotal era in Armenian history.
