Alexander Löhr

Alexander Löhr, born on May twentieth, eighteen eighty-five, was a prominent military officer in Austria. He rose to prominence as an Air Force commander during the 1930s, a period marked by significant military developments in Europe. Following the annexation of Austria, Löhr transitioned to a leadership role within the Luftwaffe, the aerial warfare branch of the German armed forces.

During World War II, Löhr's military career advanced significantly as he took command of Army Group E. His strategic capabilities eventually led him to become the commander-in-chief in Southeastern Europe, known as OB Südost. Notably, he was one of only three Austrians to achieve the rank of Generaloberst, or colonel general, within the German military hierarchy, alongside Lothar Rendulic and Erhard Raus.

However, Löhr's career came to a dramatic end after the war. Captured by Yugoslav Partisans, he faced trial for war crimes, specifically for his role in anti-partisan reprisals and the bombing of Belgrade in nineteen forty-one. His actions during the conflict led to a conviction by the Yugoslav government.

On February twenty-sixth, nineteen forty-seven, Löhr was executed by firing squad in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, marking a controversial conclusion to the life of a military leader whose legacy remains complex and debated.
