Alexander Mogilny

Alexander Mogilny, born on February eighteenth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a distinguished former professional ice hockey player who has made significant contributions to the sport. Currently, he serves as the president of Amur Khabarovsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Over his remarkable sixteen-season career in the National Hockey League (NHL) from nineteen eighty-nine to two thousand five, Mogilny showcased his talent with teams such as the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

His journey in the NHL began when he was selected eighty-ninth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the nineteen eighty-eight NHL entry draft. In a groundbreaking move, Mogilny became the first NHL draftee to defect from the Soviet Union, a pivotal moment that changed the landscape of the league. During his time with the Sabres, he made history as the first Russian player to serve as an NHL captain and led the league in goals, scoring an impressive seventy-six during the nineteen ninety-two to ninety-three season. He is one of only seven players in NHL history to score more than seventy goals in a single season.

Mogilny's accolades include winning the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in two thousand, which earned him a place in the prestigious Triple Gold Club. A two-time member of the NHL All-Star Team and a six-time All-Star, he surpassed one thousand career points and received the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in two thousand three for his sportsmanship and excellence on the ice.
