Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Alexander Shelepin

Alexander Shelepin, born on August eighteenth, nineteen eighteen, was a prominent Soviet politician and intelligence officer. His political career was marked by a long-standing membership in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, where he held significant positions including First Deputy Premier and a full member of the Politburo.

Shelepin's tenure as chairman of the KGB from December nineteen fifty-eight to November nineteen sixty-one was particularly notable. Even after his official departure from the agency, he maintained substantial influence over its operations until nineteen sixty-seven, largely through his protégé, Vladimir Semichastny, who succeeded him as KGB Chairman.

Ambitious and well-educated, Shelepin was a key figure in a hard-line faction within the Communist Party. This faction played a crucial role in the ousting of Soviet premier and First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev in nineteen sixty-four. His opposition to the policy of détente ultimately led to his political decline, as he was outmaneuvered by Leonid Brezhnev and gradually stripped of his power, thwarting his aspirations to lead the Soviet Union.
