Alexander Wienerberger

Alexander Wienerberger, born on December eighth, nineteen ninety-one, was an Austrian chemical engineer whose career spanned nearly two decades in the chemical industry of the Soviet Union. His expertise in engineering was complemented by his keen eye for photography, which he utilized to document significant historical events.

During his time in Kharkiv, Wienerberger became a witness to one of the most tragic episodes in Ukrainian history—the Holodomor of nineteen thirty-two to nineteen thirty-three. This man-made famine, orchestrated by Joseph Stalin and the Soviet authorities, aimed to suppress the Ukrainian population and resulted in mass starvation and death.

Wienerberger's photographic work during this period serves as a poignant testament to the suffering endured by the Ukrainian people.
