Alfonso VII of León and Castile

Alfonso VII of León and Castile, born on March first, one thousand one hundred five, emerged as a significant ruler in the Iberian Peninsula. He ascended to the throne of Galicia in the year one thousand one hundred eleven and later became the King of León and Castile in one thousand one hundred twenty-six. His reign marked a pivotal moment in the history of Christian Iberia, as he sought to assert the imperial title of Emperor of All Spain, a title he first adopted in collaboration with his mother, Urraca, after gaining direct control of Toledo in one thousand one hundred sixteen.

Throughout his rule, Alfonso VII was a figure of dignity and mystery. His leadership was characterized by a resurgence of the western kingdoms' dominance over their eastern counterparts, particularly Navarre and Aragón, following the era of Alfonso the Battler.
