Alfred-Maurice de Zayas, born on May thirty-first, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Cuban-born American lawyer and writer. De Zayas has made significant contributions as a historian of the modern age, jurist, translator, poet, peace activist, and diplomat.
From May first, two thousand twelve, to April thirtieth, two thousand eighteen, he held the esteemed position of the first UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order. This role, appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council, allowed him to advocate for justice and equality on a global scale.
