Ali Dia, born on August 20, 1965, is a former professional footballer from Senegal who played as a striker. His brief career in professional football is marked by an unusual and controversial entry into the sport.
In November 1996, Dia managed to persuade Graeme Souness, the manager of Southampton, that he was related to the renowned FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or winner, George Weah. This claim led to Dia signing a one-month contract with the club just days later.
However, his time at Southampton was short-lived. Dia made only one appearance for the team, coming on as a substitute in a league match. Unfortunately, he was substituted himself after just fifty-three minutes on the pitch, leading to his release from the club a mere fourteen days into his contract.
