Ali Larijani

Ali Larijani, born on June third, nineteen fifty-eight, in Najaf, Iraq, emerged as a prominent figure in Iranian politics and philosophy. Hailing from the Mazani-origin Larijani family, he pursued his studies in Western philosophy at the University of Tehran, which laid the foundation for his intellectual and political journey.

His political career began in earnest when he joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in nineteen eighty-one, a move that significantly elevated his status within the Islamic Republic. Larijani served as the speaker of the Parliament of Iran from two thousand eight to two thousand twenty, and he was a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, a role he held from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand eight and resumed in two thousand twenty.

In two thousand five, Larijani first ran for the presidency but finished in sixth place and faced disqualification in subsequent elections, including the two thousand twenty-one race. His influence peaked when he was appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, a position he held from two thousand five to two thousand seven and again from late December two thousand twenty-five until his assassination in March two thousand twenty-six.

During his tenure, Larijani was recognized as a key negotiator on national security issues, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear program. His leadership was marked by a controversial crackdown on protests in January two thousand twenty-six, which led to new sanctions imposed by the United States. Larijani was described as the mastermind behind the repression, leveraging his connections within the IRGC and the clerical establishment to consolidate power.

Tragically, his ascent was cut short when he was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on March seventeenth, two thousand twenty-six, just months after being regarded as one of Iran's most powerful leaders.
